Backlog

Orders a company has already won but not yet delivered or been paid for. A growing backlog usually means more sales are on the way.

Makers of big equipment, like power turbines or planes, often have backlogs worth several years of sales. Investors watch whether it grows or shrinks each quarter.

Also called: order backlog, backlogs.
