Privacy policy

Last updated October 23, 2026

We collect as little as possible. You can read every article without an account, and we don't use advertising or tracking cookies.

Visitor statistics

We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to count visits and see which pages are popular. It does not use cookies, does not fingerprint visitors and does not track you across other websites. Our hosting provider (Cloudflare) processes standard technical data such as IP addresses to deliver the site and protect it from attacks.

Search

Search runs entirely in your browser. What you type is not sent to us.

Our email list

If you subscribe to our email list, we store your email address with our email service provider only to send you those emails. We don't sell or share your address. Every email has an unsubscribe link that removes your address from the list.

Messages you send us

Each article has an “Ask a question or report an error” form. It never asks for your email address. If you send a message, we store:

  • your message, the type you chose (question, correction or other) and the name you typed, if any;
  • which article you sent it from, and when;
  • a one-way scrambled code (a keyed hash) made from your IP address. We use it only to stop spam and limit how many messages one connection can send. We never store your IP address itself, and the code can't be turned back into it.

To block spam bots, the form uses Cloudflare Turnstile, which checks that a person is sending the message. It loads only when you open the form. Messages are read by our editors and are not published. We delete them after 12 months. Please don't include personal details in your message.

Links to other sites

Articles link to news sources and company websites. Those sites have their own privacy policies.

Questions

Reader questions and corrections: use the “Ask a question or report an error” form at the end of any article. If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top.
